The death toll from the Eastleigh building collapse is expected to rise to five following the recovery of two more bodies from the rubble on the 14th day of rescue operations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The building, which collapsed along 9th Street in Eastleigh, Nairobi, has left several families devastated as emergency teams continue searching for victims trapped beneath the debris.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
According to Kamukunji Member of Parliament Yusuf Hassan, rescuers retrieved two more victims early Thursday morning, while efforts were underway to recover a third body, which would bring the confirmed death toll to five.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In a statement shared on his official Facebook page, Hassan expressed his condolences to the bereaved families and sympathised with residents of Eastleigh and the wider Kamukunji constituency.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He assured families whose relatives remain missing that the search operation would continue until everyone was accounted for.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The MP also commended rescue teams for working tirelessly under dangerous conditions for nearly two weeks. He recognised the contributions of volunteers, health workers, security personnel and local residents who have supported the operation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Hassan further called for a comprehensive investigation into the circumstances surrounding the collapse once the rescue operation is completed, saying accountability was necessary to prevent similar tragedies in Nairobi.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The prolonged rescue operation has drawn attention to building safety and the need for stronger enforcement of construction regulations to protect residents and prevent future disasters.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
