Defending champions Gor Mahia kept their 100 per cent start to the FKF Premier League season with a 1-0 win over Kakamega Homeboyz at Bukhungu Stadium on Wednesday.
Winger David ‘Messi’ Okoth scored the only goal in the 69th minute against his former club, cutting in from the left after a pass from Jackson Dwang and firing a powerful left-footed shot past Homeboyz goalkeeper Ibrahim Wanzala.
The result makes it four wins from four for K’Ogalo, who top the table with 12 points. It was Homeboyz’s first defeat of the campaign after an unbeaten run in their opening three matches.
The first half was evenly matched, with both sides creating chances. Coach Charles Akonnor had rotated his squad to give fringe players minutes, and credited his second-half changes for swinging the game Gor’s way. Homeboyz coach Edward Manoah said his side had paid for failing to take their chances and would work on finishing in training.
Late on, Homeboyz pushed for an equaliser, but Gor goalkeeper Katasi denied Boniface Omondi to protect the lead.
