A 34-year-old man from Garissa is receiving medical attention at Garissa Referral Hospital after a frightening encounter with armed robbers along a road near Madogo.
The man, identified as Daniel Musyoka, was reportedly travelling home through the Mororo area when he came across four suspected robbers dressed in black clothes and wearing masks.
According to reports, the gang had positioned themselves along the road, with two men on either side. As Musyoka approached, one of the suspects reportedly placed a machete on the ground to intimidate him before the group searched him and stole KSh 420 and four cigarettes.
In a shocking turn of events, Musyoka reportedly swallowed a four-inch nail out of fear for his life as the armed men threatened him. The attackers later allowed him to leave.
After arriving home, he became concerned about his condition. He reportedly purchased cooking oil from a nearby shop and consumed it in an attempt to reduce the possible effects of swallowing the metal object.
He later went to bed but woke up the following morning intending to resume his normal activities. However, fear and uncertainty initially prevented him from reporting the incident to the authorities.
He eventually sought medical assistance and was admitted to Garissa Referral Hospital, where medical personnel are monitoring his condition.
The incident has raised concerns about the safety of motorists and other road users travelling through the Madogo and Mororo areas, particularly amid concerns over attacks by armed criminals.
Further updates on his medical condition and the circumstances surrounding the incident are awaited.
